Abstract: This first survey focused mainly on the common elements in the services and was undertaken by a team of two inspectors between March and December 2002. The sample comprised parents of children attending primary and post-primary schools. This report focuses on the instrumental teaching service; where curricular support personnel are part of the music service, they have been excluded from calculations. While the patterns in the returns from each board differed a little, overall, most parents were satisfied with the provision which the service made for their children, and almost all reported that their children remained keen to learn to play their instrument.
